01 Outcomes

What does success look like?

Validated opportunity spaces ready for investment or ideation A repeatable path from trend to portfolio input Faster strategic response to emerging change Evidence-based cases for entering, or ignoring, a space

Most organizations do not lack awareness of trends; they lack the machinery that turns awareness into allocation. This blueprint exists for the handover moment: a validated opportunity space, sized and framed, landing in front of someone with a budget.

02 Assets

What data do you need to gather?

Inputs Reference Outputs
Prioritized trends from the radar Market, customer & competitive evidence Internal capability assessments Opportunity framing templates Validation criteria & evidence standards Strategic priorities & investment themes Validated opportunity briefs Sizing & entry-option analyses Go, watch or pass recommendations

The work happens between two documents: the trend assessment that starts it and the opportunity brief that ends it. Everything in between, evidence, sizing, framing, exists to make that final brief strong enough to move money.

03 Allies

Who do you need to involve?

Team Company Ecosystem
Opportunity lead or strategist Analysts & researchers Portfolio owners who receive the briefs Business unit leaders for domain judgment Finance for sizing discipline Customers & partners for validation evidence External experts & advisors

This workflow lives or dies on its receiving end. The analysts who build the case matter, but the defining allies are the portfolio and business owners who agreed, in advance, to treat a validated brief as an input they must answer.

04 Process

How does the work flow?

Discovery Evaluation Implementation
1
Prioritize trends to pursue
Select from the radar the trends whose relevance and timing justify investigation now.
2
Frame opportunity spaces
Translate each trend into specific opportunity hypotheses for your organization.
3
Validate with evidence
Test the hypotheses against market data, customer input, and capability reality.
4
Size & shape options
Quantify the opportunity and define realistic entry options, from ideation to acquisition.
5
Pitch to portfolio owners
Present validated briefs at a defined forum with a recommendation attached.
6
Hand off & track
Route accepted opportunities into ideation, ventures, or portfolio, and follow their fate.

A pipeline with a deliberate narrowing: many trends enter, few opportunity briefs leave, and each one leaves with a verdict attached. Passing on a space, documented, is as valuable an output as entering one.

How Qmarkets powers Signals-To-Strategy

Powered by Horizon
Turn this blueprint into business impact

Horizon reads across patents, academic research, news, and company activity, then turns a strategic topic into an interactive landscape your team can explore together. Every signal is scored for impact and readiness and traces back to the evidence behind it, so the opportunity spaces you carry into validation hold up when a sponsor asks why. Horizon keeps watching after the research is done, so a space that accelerates or stalls surfaces while you can still act on it.

Smart tools and intelligent features to streamline Signals-to-Strategy.

Iris AI assembles first-draft opportunity briefs from the trend evidence, surfaces comparable cases from past cycles, and stress-tests framing by flagging missing evidence against your validation criteria, so strategists argue the judgment calls, not the paperwork.

About Signals-to-Strategy

The radar tells you what is changing; this workflow decides what you do about it. It picks the trends worth acting on, builds the evidence, and delivers an investable brief, which is the step most trend programs never institutionalize.

An opportunity space is a validated territory, a customer problem meeting a market shift where you could credibly play. Ideas are answers; the space is the question, framed well enough that ideation or investment can attack it.

Enough to change a portfolio owner’s decision, no more. The criteria define it per stage: early gates need directional market and customer signals; the final brief needs sizing, capability fit, and at least one tested assumption.

They get a documented pass verdict with its reasoning, and a review trigger if conditions change. A deliberate, recorded no is a strategic asset; a space that just faded from attention is a future surprise.

A strategist or opportunity lead close enough to leadership to secure the receiving forum. The single most important design act is upstream agreement that portfolio owners will formally answer every validated brief.

A handful in active validation at any time, typically three to six, drawn from a larger framed backlog. Depth beats breadth here; one brief that moves money outperforms ten that circulate.

Conversion and consequence: how many briefs reached a verdict, how many verdicts moved resources, and what those moves returned. Cycle time from trend selection to portfolio answer is the health metric in between.

Horizon does the work up to the decision: it builds the landscape, scores each signal for impact and readiness, and traces every insight back to its source so a validated opportunity space holds up in review. What happens next depends on the space. If the answer sits outside the business, Q-scout runs the scouting and partnership process against it. If it sits inside, Q-ideate opens it up for ideation and Q-impact tracks it as a funded initiative.
